The Filipino Tennis Club (Singapore) is privileged to have Ramon Padiernos, managing director of Gemalto, to spearhead the club to a new dimension. Ramon’s themes in 2010 are: (1) 3Fs — Fun, Fitness & Friendship, (2) to build up the financial standing of FTC, (3) to engage more Filipino professionals & supporters/friends in Singapore to join FTC tennis tournaments/friendlies, and (4) to be engaged in humanitarian/charitable events, including the Children Cancer Foundation.
To kick-off the first major event of FTC and to provide an avenue for networking and camaraderie during the Vesak Day holidays (28-29 May 2010), FTC is organizing the first 2010 PRESIDENT’S CUP, a yearly event to be sponsored by key officers/supporters of FTC. The first major sponsor of this event is no other than the current president, Ramon Padiernos. This event is in line with his theme of 3Fs.
The President’s Cup will not be successful without the extraordinary efforts of the Tennis Committee (Eric Gutierrez, Egwin Agawin, Mon Red, Raymond Palomares, Raul Alenton, Ronnie Ruanto, Ernie Sabigan and key FTC officers working behind the scene). This two-day event is well subscribed with about 150 entries received in various doubles categories (Mixed doubles, A, B1, B2, & C). In total, about 70 – 80 members participated.
During the matches, players battled it out to win the crucial points. Despite issues with the court bookings and unforeseen events like unavailability of some players, the event was a huge success. During the awarding ceremony, winners received price money on top of the beautiful star platinum trophies. Everyone enjoyed the special gifts draw and the super delicious buffet spread prepared for the participants. You can see the smile on everyone’s faces. Thanks to family members & friends who waited patiently and supported the players.
