FTC’s partnership with PLDT started when the current General Manager, Rey Yu, started joining the members for Saturday tennis at Farrer Tennis Courts. Upon the generous sponsorship of PLDT, FTC organized the PLDT Smart Pinoy Cup from November 2008 to 2nd May 2009. This tennis tournament attracted 92 participants for doubles play (levels C, B2, B1 and A).
On 2nd May 2009, the remaining matches are played: B2 – semis and finals; B1 – finals and C – semis & finals. The eliminations for the other levels are concluded in the early part of 2009. Rey, Rodel Bicol (GM, PLDT), and Roland Pagdanganan (MD, HeadStart Consultancy Services Pte Ltd) presented the trophies to the winners. In Rey’s speech, he announced that PLDT will continue to sponsor this event much to the delight of the members.
